Vulva Casting
Workshop Objectives
- Create a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for vulva-owners (or anyone comfortable engaging with vulva-based content) to explore body image and self-love.
- Celebrate the beauty and diversity of vulvas through the art of plaster casting.
- Open a conversation around anatomy, pleasure, and societal taboos.
- Provide education about vulvas in a fun, hands-on, body-positive way.
Suggested Workshop Flow (2.5 to 3 Hours):
- Welcome + Intention Setting (15 min)
- Introduce yourself and your background.
- Set group agreements: confidentiality, non-judgment, consent around sharing, etc.
- Invite participants to introduce themselves with pronouns (optional), name, and what drew them to the workshop.
- Brief Education & Discussion (20–30 min)
- A short presentation on vulva anatomy and its diversity (using visuals).
- Invite discussion: What messages have we been taught about our bodies? What does it mean to reclaim or celebrate our vulvas?
- Normalize all shapes, sizes, colours, and textures.
- Vulva Casting Demo + Prep (15–20 min)
- Explain the steps of the casting process.
- Address safety, consent, and comfort.
- Offer participants the option to cast themselves in private or with assistance.
- Casting Session (45–60 min)
- Participants take turns or go off into private spaces/booths to cast (if possible).
- Provide mirrors, wipes, robes, and towels for comfort.
- Play body-positive music in the background.
- Drying + Decorating (30 min)
- Once the casts dry, offer supplies to decorate them (paint, glitter, gems, affirmations, etc.).
- This can be done in community or privately.
- Closing Circle (20 min)
- Invite participants to reflect on the process (sharing optional).
- Hand out a resource sheet (books, podcasts, educators, organizations).
- Close with a grounding exercise or affirmation.
Materials Needed
- Alginate powder (skin-safe molding compound)
- Plaster of Paris
- Mixing bowls & spatulas
- Disposable cups for water
- Drop cloths or towels
- Aprons or robes
- Latex/nitrile gloves
- Mirrors (for positioning)
- Decorations (paint, glitter, markers, gems)
- Name tags, pens, waivers (optional)
- Cleaning supplies (wipes, paper towels)
Inclusion & Accessibility Tips
- Use inclusive language (e.g. "vulva-owners" instead of "women").
- Offer gender-neutral bathrooms.
- Make it clear that shaving or grooming is not expected.
- Allow participants to opt out of sharing their cast or being in group photos.
- Provide sliding scale pricing or a few sponsored spots if budget allows.
